I’m an Italian that has recently retired to Missouri.
My quiet natural surroundings and free time have
given me the opportunity to indulge in my love of fine art.

Several years ago I started to paint replicas of great
masterpieces not only to be able to enjoy their beauty,
but also to really understand the techniques used
by the famous masters.

Before I begin a new painting, I research and collect all the information available about
the author, the composition, the pigments used, the texture and the master’s brushstrokes.

I try to follow the same order and procedure of work used in the original painting like the
color of the ground (imprimatura), the dead layer (first painting with only umber or
ochre), background, halftones, light and dark tones and the final details.

To gain an essential understanding of the painting, I do several drawings and studies of
the most important details.

Based on this method, I have produced replicas of many of the French impressionists
(Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Gaugin, Manet, Pissarro, Sisley, Boudin, Mary Cassat), the
Italian Renaissance (Raphael, Botticelli, Correggio, Bellini), the Baroque (Vermeer,
Caravaggio, Velazquez, Claesz) and others (Fragonard, Sargent, Ingres, Bierstadt etc.)

I derive great satisfaction from creating these replicas. I began my paintings for my own
pleasure, but after seeing my work, some people have asked me to paint replicas of their
favorite masterpieces.

Now, I do some commissions and I sell my oil paintings on stretched canvass at prices
ranging from $100 to $500.

Posters or prints of fine art cannot compare with the depth and color brought forth in an
original oil.
